Goiter
Manuel Vogel shows a squeaky clean goiter
It would probably have been more difficult to jump an aerial with re-entry on this wave. With the goiter, however, you rotate in the direction of the wave and can thus land on the wave face.
After the take-off at the breaking peak, this wave also offers a clean face without white water - perfect for jumping the aerial into planing, as Manuel Vogel demonstrates here.
Here are a few more tips from Manuel:
Side-offshore conditions are ideal for the goiter, but the maneuver is also possible in side- or side-onshore conditions. It is important to ride a high line on the wave, i.e. to stay close to the peak of the wave and aim a small breaking section. In order for the rotation to work, the sail is not twisted in the air, but before the jump. The front hand guides the rig towards the bottom of the wave. Only the rotation above the sail then takes place in the air, the view should lead over the front shoulder towards the bottom of the wave. Although the goiter is one of the most difficult moves in the wave, it can still be practiced relatively safely if you first deliberately jump behind the wave. Have fun practicing!
