Flaka
Lisa Kloster performs the flaka
In this riding technique video you can see how Lisa Kloster jumps a flaka. The sequence of movements is easy to follow in slow motion. We have mirrored the clip so that it works for both riding directions.
The flaka is initiated with a turn to leeward. This reduces the power in the sail. The take-off then takes place with the body leaned slightly forward, as it (and the sail) must be moved in the direction of the nose.
The take-off is performed not into the wind, but straight ahead on a slight downwind course. The further the body and sail are leaned forward, the more the nose of the board sinks. Its dip accelerates the rotation around the upright mast.
Tighten the mast hand, let the sail swing through the wind and the flaka is done.
