Body Drag
Balz Müller shows the body drag
There is probably no other move that expresses the fun of windsurfing better. With body drag, you let the sail pull you across the water alongside the board.
In addition to self-confidence, it also requires a lot of board and sail control to get back up again, while the boards keeps planing. The only danger here is a catapult.
The key points:
- Get off the board slightly backwards, keep your arms bent and apply your weight to the base of the mast
- Keep your lower legs and outstretched feet at as flat an angle as possible to the surface of the water, stretch your legs and keep your body tension so that your knees do not sink in
- steer the board on a gentle downwind course
Best conditions for practicing:
- flat water surface
- use the shallow water in front of a swell wave, here it also goes downhill on the wave face and you can ride the body drag longer
At the beginning, you don't have to get up again with your board staying in planing mode, just let yourself be pulled over the water for as long as possible. When the planing ends, you simply start again with the water start. You gradually gain control and can get back on the board directly from the body drag.
