Backloop
Marc Paré shows a perfect backward rotation over a rather flat wave
Backloops are best jumped over steep waves to convert your speed into jump height. The resulting lower horizontal speed also helps when landing, as you can touch down in a more controlled manner.
But the waves are not always really steep. Marc Paré shows in this video that the backloop also works over rather flat waves. You need power in the sail to achieve sufficient altitude.
A lot of speed and a little turn into upwind direction before the jump - then even a ramp with 45 degrees is enough to jump the backloop high enough. In the video you can see that Marc not only jumps high, but also two mast lengths wide - and still manages a good landing.
The biggest sticking point is the landing. You should avoid diving in too steeply if you still have forward speed. This could end up in a catapult.
Therefore the most important tip: The more you can jump high into the wind, the lower the speed in the original direction of travel.
